Superleague club Hull FC, one of the oldest rugby league franchises in the sport’s history, is looking to recruit an experienced Business Development Manager.

This is a fantastic time to join the club.  Nicknamed the “Black and Whites” and the “Airlie Birds”, Hull FC are five times Challenge Cup winners, currently sitting fourth in the Super League, and are in the semi finals of the Challenge Cup with their match next month against Warrington Wolves.  Wembley may be calling once again!

The club attracts some of the biggest crowds in rugby league, has an incredible fan base and is just as strong off the pitch, boasting year on year profits and partnerships with leading brands both national and local, including Jacuzzi and Minstergate Hyundai.

The Opportunity: Business Development Manager

  • Salary:  £30,000 – £35,000
  • OTE:       £55,000+
  • Company Car, Pension and Generous Holiday Entitlement

Hull FC were first established over 150 years ago in 1865, and are one of the leading rugby league sides in the super league.  The club play their rugby from the KCOM stadium and are owned by entrepreneur Adam Pearson who is a passionate rugby league fan with family who have played at professional level themselves.

The Business Development Manager will report directly to James Clarke, Executive Director at Hull FC. James has been working at Hull FC for the last ten years, seeing their revenue more than double in this time and showing what can be done with a determined and creative attitude. He is a passionate Hull man who loves sport and has described this role as “a lifestyle choice, not just a job”.

Have you got what it takes to be part of this winning team?

As the Business Development Manager, you will report to The Executive Director and be responsible for:

  • Delivery of revenues in line with targets
  • Researching and targeting prospective businesses that are a good strategic fit, and will benefit from partnership with Hull FC and a relationship with its fanbase.
  • Managing relationships with existing clients identifying upsell opportunities and making those customers feel a part of the club.
  • Generating high level sponsorship revenues from regional and national brands that see Hull as a core business area.
  • Selling the full portfolio of commercial opportunities available through Hull FC including advertising, sponsorship, promotions, hospitality and more.
  • Taking the lead within a small commercial team to identify new ways of growing revenue.

To be the successful Business Development Manager you must have;

  • A strong track record in B2B sales working with both SME and large corporate businesses.
  • Experience of negotiation at senior management and/or board level.
  • A positive creative mindset, being commercially astute and recognising opportunities others don’t
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • The determination and resilience to deliver in a target driven environment.
  • The ability to build strategic relationships at board level
  • Strong account management experience
  • Experience of leading sales teams would be advantageous
  • A background in advertising, promotions and events or sport would be an advantage but are not essential
  • Excellent communication skills, time management and the ability to prioritise effectively
